OF ABOUT 100 FEET. MY WING MAN, LT. GILBERT,
AND I GAVE
CHASE
AND THE ENEMY PLANE FLATTENED OUT ON THE
DECK AND WENT BOUNC-
ING
OVER GROVES OF TREES AND MAKING VERTICAL
BANKS ACROSS SMALL
FIELDS,
MAKING ANY ACCURATE FIRE EXTREMELY
DIFFICULT. I FIRED
SEVERAL
SHORT BURSTS AT ABOUT 300 TO 400 YARDS AND
FINALLY WAS CLOS-
ING
IN ON A TURN ACROSS A FIELD WHEN I FOUND I

BATTERED AS THE LAND-

PICTURES AS MY WING
