15 MILES SE OF BONN AND NEAR THE LENZ AIRFIELD. ONE MILE E OF THE

RHINE.

F)

HIGH THIN OVERCAST, 7/10 TO 8/10 AT 20,000 FEET. VISIBILITY

UNLIMITED.

ME-109'S & FW-190'S.

H)

ONE ME-109 DESTROYED & ONE FW-190 DESTROYED.

I)

    I WAS FLYING YELLOW TWO IN TURMOIL SQUADRON ON AN ARMED

RECCE MISSION IN THE KOBLENZ-BONN AREA. WE HAD JUST FINISHED

DIVE BOMBING SOME BARGES ON A RIVER WHEN BANDITS WERE REPORTED

AT 20,000 FEET. YELLOW LEADER AND I CLIMBED TO 12,000 FEET AND

WERE ATTACKED BY SIX ME-109'S. THEY CAME DOWN ON YELLOW LEADER'S

TAIL AND I FIRED A BURST AT THE FIRST ONE AND HE BROKE OFF, THE

SECOND ATTACK OF SIX MORE CAME FROM ELEVEN O'CLOCK AND I FIRED A

BURST AT ONE FROM ABOUT 40 DEGREES AT APPROXIMATELY 500 YARDS,

NO HITS OBSERVED, THE THIRD ATTACK OF SIX MORE CAME FROM NINE

O'CLOCK AND I FIRED A BURST AT ONE OF THEM AND OBSERVED A FEW STRIKE,

HE ROLLED OVER ON HIS BACK AND SPLIT "S" DOWN WITH A THICK BLACK

STREAM OF SMOKE COMING FROM HIS ENGINE. I COULD NOT FOLLOW HIM

DOWN BECAUSE OF ANOTHER ATTACK OF SIX MORE FROM TWELVE O'CLOCK;

THREE SHIPS (190'S) CAME DOWN ON YELLOW LEADER AND MYSELF. I FIRED

ON ONE BUT DID NOT OBSERVE HITS, HOWEVER, LT. PILCH YELLOW LEADER

STATES THAT THE FW-190 EXPLODED IN FRONT OF HIM AND THAT NO ONE

ELSE WAS FIRING ON HIM BUT MYSELF. AT THAT TIME MY LEADER WAS

HIT IN THE LEFT WING AND XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXOF ANOTHER

ATTACK FROM ASTERN.

     I SAW THREE ME-109'SXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX, ONE OF THEM

IN FLAMES. I DID NOT SEE ANY CHUTES.

     I CLAIM ONE ME-109 DESTROYED AND ONE FW-190 DESTROYED.
