P-47 "JUG"

Reunion 2006 - Highlights of the Millville Army Airfield Museum

This painting depicts a 373rd Fighter Group P-47 attack on Rhine River barges in September of '44, denying much needed supplies to the enemy.  The aircraft markings indicates a 412th Squadron aircraft with the name BITTERBITCHER.

As part of a 36 painting series know as "The Valiant Clan", this painting was created in the 1970s by a team that included Glenn Bavousett as coordinator and W.T. "Tony" Wedell as the color artist who based their series upon those WWII aircraft existing in the collection of the Confederate Air Force. These paintings were historically accurate scenes based upon carefully researched episodes of actual combat that centered around the particular aircraft portrayed.
